The Bible records a story where Jesus made a detour to meet a woman at a well. She comes to the well at noon, a time where few will be around because of the searing Judean heat.
As it turns out, she is of questionable repute and has lived with five men. With our modern knowledge, we can surmise that she may have trauma in her life, some forms of unhealthy attachments, and is desperately trying to make life work out. Maybe not so different from us after all. We may not have her story, but each of us has times when we would rather avoid others, feel unsure about our choices or live with consequences we dread...
Jesus takes the time to sit, wait and converse with her. Then He offers her Living Water - a deep, total refreshing, one that will change her permanently. Will she accept it?
Jesus offers us a similar experience. I want to invite you to make your way to encounter this transformation -
by spending intentional time to read Scripture, ponder and hear Jesus for yourself.
Every five days, there will be a short reading and a reflection on our website and social media. You can bookmark and remind yourself to look it up. For those who prefer print, I suggest that you print it out for yourself. We are doing this as a community, which enriches the experience.
It is a journey that I pray will lead us to the following –
More of the Word
I will be writing the reflections based on Scripture. You will need to read the scripture and let it sink in over the days. This is a great way to know the Word better and more deeply.
More of the Truth
As you look over the reflections and let the Holy Spirit of truth lead you, God will take your hand to look at your life through His eyes. It will be 40 days of coming to know yourself better – through God’s eyes of love, compassion and freedom-bringing truth.
More of God's people
We are all encouraged by fellow travelers. We hope each of us can co-create this community experience by leaving comments on the website or socials, or even email us at toreally.liv3@gmail.com – frequently others’ perspectives and authentic sharing shed more light and add courage to us.
This journey will begin on February 15th, preparing us for the season of Lent – a 40-day period when christians everywhere seek to be more sensitive to God and yield their lives to Him afresh. The Scripture readings and reflections will plow the soil of our hearts so that we can experience the meaning and power of Easter – the cornerstone of our faith – in a marvelous new way.
As an expression of this desire, a fast is often included in the journey. Fasting is not deprivation; rather, it is a proclamation of what we truly need to live. So if we fast from TV or desserts, we are saying that we do not need these to really live. Instead, we turn our hunger to Him, who alone feeds us in the truest and deepest sense.
Well, dear one, shall we embark on this journey together?
